Why Emotional Awareness Can Solve Conflicts?

Posted on May 07, 2023.

Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand, and manage one's own emotions, as well as the emotions of others. It has been shown to be a critical factor in personal and professional success. It is worth noting that emotional intelligence can be developed and improved over time through self-awareness, practice, and feedback.

According to our CEO ’s speech at TEDxĐaKao: Aspiration (Khát Vọng), your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors affect your relationships, whether consciously or unconsciously. She chooses to observe, find ways to express her feelings in words, learn more about emotional intelligence as well as models of communication, and always ask herself, "How am I feeling right now?" before starting a conversation.

Vietnamese people’s attitude toward EI

Emotional intelligence is becoming an increasingly important topic in Vietnam, as in many other countries. Many businesses in Vietnam are recognizing the importance of emotional intelligence in the workplace and are taking steps to develop emotional intelligence skills in their employees.

In addition, there are various organizations and programs in Vietnam that are focused on developing emotional intelligence skills. For example, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has offered training programs on emotional intelligence for business leaders, and the Vietnam Education Foundation has also supported projects aimed at promoting emotional intelligence in education.

Bearing in mind that cultural factors can influence emotional intelligence. In Vietnam, for example, there is a strong emphasis on collectivism and interpersonal harmony, which may lead to a greater focus on social awareness and relationship management skills.

What is interpersonal harmony?

Interpersonal harmony is a cultural value that emphasizes maintaining positive relationships and avoiding conflict.

However, it's important to note that emotional intelligence is not about avoiding conflict. Instead, it's about recognizing and managing emotions effectively in order to regulate these emotions by ourselves, and in order to avoid putting the responsibility on others of our own emotions.

In cultures that value interpersonal harmony, individuals may be more likely to use emotional intelligence skills such as empathy, active listening, and relationship management to maintain positive relationships and avoid unnecessary conflict. However, this does not mean that conflicts are addressed or resolved, as there is a tendency to avoid or keep things secret, in order to keep the harmony.
